GCC NAVHDA Testing

2026 GCC Chapter members with their dogs at the NAVHDA Inventional Test. The Grand Canyon Chapter hosts sanctioned tests twice a year, offering a rigorous and respected evaluation of your dog’s natural talent and your progress as a trainer.

During these test weekends, you have the option to enter your dog in one of three levels:

  • Natural Ability (NA): For dogs up to and including the day they reach 16 months of age.

  • Gun Dog Test (GDT): An intermediate evaluation for dogs in transition to advanced field work.

  • Utility (UT): A high-level test for the finished versatile hunting dog.

For a deep dive into the specific requirements and standards of each level, please visit the NAVHDA International website, where you can find comprehensive testing rules and information.

To ensure an objective and professional evaluation, we bring in three NAVHDA-certified judges for every test. This ensures that all dogs are held to the highest national standards of the versatile hunting dog.

Get Involved: Volunteer Opportunities

Our tests are only possible thanks to the dedicated volunteers who help everything run smoothly. Whether you are a new member looking to learn the ropes or a seasoned handler wanting to give back, we always have a spot for you!

Why Volunteer?

Volunteering is one of the best ways to see exactly what the judges are looking for. You’ll get a "front-row seat" to the action, see a variety of dog work, and learn the mechanics of the test before it’s your turn to handle.

How You Can Help:

We are always looking for bird planters, gunners, marshals, and general field help. No experience? No problem—we’ll pair you with someone who can show you the ropes.
